The Great Sabatini - "Napoleon Sodomite" 7"

Those who have been keeping an eye on The Great Sabatini since their formation in 2007 know to expect ambitious things from the Montreal quartet. Sabatini has always managed the difficult task of balancing memorable hooks and a penchant for experimentation and abrasive extremity without either of these ends suffering or sounding put on. With their latest 7”, the hilariously titled “Napoleon Sodomite”, Sabatini prove anew that they haven't found a plate they aren't interested in spinning. The EP's title track maintains all of the abrasion and weight of prior Sabatini work, but with a twisted, sinister hop in its step that feels like some kind of massive, indestructible crytozoilogical oddity recently sprung from its cage and gleefully laying upper-class shopping districts to waste. The flip side is reserved for the much moodier “Trap Sequence” which is a perfect dynamic switch from its rampaging A-side. That's not to imply that it doesn't rage however, far from it. While no less crushing than “Napoleon Sodomite”, “Trap Sequence” is a freewheeling, mutation based track that sees its staring grooves contort, pulse and evolve with the finesse of some of yester-years finest non-dungeons-and-dragon-based-prog without sacrificing any bite.

Long time End-Timers know how I feel on the matter. It's new Sabatini jams, GET WITH IT.
